Corralling the Lizard in Your Home
1. Identify lizard location
First step in corralling the lizard in your home is to determine the location or room where the lizard is normally observed. As a consistent creature, the lizard can be usually found in the same room and even in the same spot every time it will be accessed. After identifying their location, the next step should be the examination of the room. Examine the room carefully for all holes, and openings where lizards can enter and escape easily. Close all such openings.
2. Seal escape points

Use more than one bucket one over another to seal any opening present inside the bucket. After that, put the buckets at lizard’s most visited point. Draw or paint a crack at the bottom of a bucket, so that lizard might consider it as a natural crack and head towards it immediately. Research their eating habits, and their behavior. After studying entirely, you can make an adequate trap with appropriate bait to trap the lizards.

The most important aspect that is required to make a lizard trap is a box or container. The box should be odorless; otherwise, it might shun the lizards away from it. Other items required are odorless tape, cellophane, bugs, and few pieces of sweets or fruits.

To make a trap for lizards, first, take a box and cover its unwrapped part correctly through cellophane sheet. To make sheet stick properly, use odorless tape to stick it with the box. Your next step should be to make a hole in the middle of cellophane sheet. Cut the cellophane sheet from the middle. Take huge care regarding hole’s size while cutting it. If the hole is too small, it will not let the lizard enter inside it, and if it is too bigger than the lizard size, then other unwanted reptiles would also get enter into it.
Instead of using opaque container, if feasible, you can use a glass container for this purpose. Glass container will also assist you in having a view of every corner of the container. After preparing a container, put some lizard food inside the container. The purpose behind is to attract the lizard to enter inside.
However, special care should be taken while selecting a lizard food. It should be according to their choice. Otherwise, it would repel lizards rather than attracting it. You can also attract lizard’s food naturally by putting few sweet or fruits inside the container.
3. How to use it
After preparing trap put it in a location where lizards come frequently, or put it outside of your home in the garden or courtyard. If there is any shelf or higher surface, put the container there as it will attract lizard to climb it.
Don’t forget to keep some extra sheet beneath the container to keep it protected from getting wet. After setting your container properly, come back to check trapped lizard after regular intervals. Lizards will get trapped within a day or two. If it is not in your case, then have patience and keep changing the bait regularly.
4. Use a lizard “fishing pole.”

is only useful for small lizards. This method is a bit tricky, that’s why it is not advisable to use it for big lizards having sharp teeth. Furthermore, it should only be used by experienced persons to catch the lizards. Few methods are involved in making fishing pole trap for lizards:
Take a long stick should be at least three feet long to make a fishing pole. The original fishing pole can also be used. The only changing required is to remove a fishing line with a soft material as it might hurt a small lizard. After taking a stick, attach a long piece of waxed dental floss at one corner of the stick.
The size of the dental floss should be comparable to that of the stick. If waxed dental floss is not available, then other soft lining material can also be used. Make a tightened loop at the loose end of the floss. The size of the loop should be large enough to grasp lizard’s head inside it.
After preparing a fishing pole, search for the lizards at your location. After finding a lizard, approach it slowly by its side or front. This technique would work better if the Lizard is approached from its front. It will make lizard alert of you and careless from your side. Keeping an adequate distance from the lizard, try to fit the noose around lizard’s head softly. Once lizard gets caught in the noose, remove the noose slowly and trap the lizard.
5. Attracting a lizard for trapping
To catch lizards for trap, the first step is to inspect them carefully. Inspect them regarding their eating habits, habitat and other behavior. After researching properly about the lizard, build some realistic habitat for lizards according to their choice. Like small lizards prefer to hide inside the crack.
Therefore by using some wood or cement materials build a little wall with an adequate size hole inside it to let the lizard pass. Put this wall inside a lid of a big container. The lid should be placed upside down on the ground and wall should be placed above it. Wait for the lizard and as soon as lizard comes to enter the wall’s crack put the container on its lid and tighten it properly.
Other tips
Few other tips can be used to catch a lizard in your home:
- Using a flypaper can be helpful in catching the lizards. Put flypaper on the places where lizards frequently come in search of insects and bugs. On reaching near flypaper, the lizard would get stuck and trap inside it.
- Use butterfly net to catch a lizard. Look for the location of lizard. On finding the lizard, take a butterfly net and throw it over the lizard. It will be caught inside the cage.
- Glue boards can also be used to trap the lizards. Put glue boards on lizards’ active areas and wait for them to pass it. As they pass over the glue board, they would get stuck in it and can be removed afterward. However, this method can hurt the feet of lizards.
